EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an evidence-based intervention to treat trauma and related challenges. It is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Research has shown effective treatment in this modality for individuals with PTSD, childhood trauma, anxiety, grief, depression, OCD, chronic pain, eating disorders and more. The videos below go into more detail about the process. I am also happy to answer any additional questions.
*Note- Many therapists that offer EMDR Therapy may only be trained in the modality, however, I have gone through extensive training and supervision/consultation to reach certification in order to ensure safe and effective use of the protocol as it is one of the primary interventions I offer in my practice.
